Are you interested in enjoying God's wonderful wilderness and fellowship from St. Mary Magdalene at the same time? How about joining some parishioners for the September long weekend at Luther Village? It is a special time before summer ends and school begins. The setting is wonderful! Various accommodation options exist from tenting to cabins. Full details can be viewed at www.luthervillage.ca. Each family is responsible for making own arrangements, but we can join for meals if desired. For more information, contact Marla Benjamin 883-2172.

Try to be scent-free: There is clear medical evidence that scented products – things like perfumes, aftershaves and some shampoos - are harmful to people with allergies, environmental sensitivity or chronic heart or lung disease. Please be respectful of others and choose not to wear scented products while in church.

Margaret Jones is doing the Alzheimer Memory Walk, Thursday, June 12, in memory of Alan. Your support is appreciated.

CANADA/GLOBAL

Calling on the Canadian government to engage in constructive dialogue with Indigenous peoples

Canadian human rights and social justice groups joined Indigenous peoples’ organizations in welcoming the September 13 decision of the United Nations General Assembly to adopt the long-awaited UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Indigenous peoples in every region of the world face daily threats to their well-being and survival. The adoption of the Declaration sends a clear message that this has to change. Now that the Declaration is part of the international rights laws and standards, human rights groups and Indigenous peoples’ organizations in Canada are urging the federal government to return to a constructive dialogue with Indigenous peoples about its implementation.

Please PRAY for Indigenous peoples and their quest for self-determination.

On May 11, we will be celebrating Mother’s Day and Pentecost. Pentecost is a celebration of the gift of the Holy Spirit & is regarded as the birthday of the Christian Church & the start of the church’s mission to the world. We ask you to wear red on May 11, as a symbol of the flames in which the Holy Spirit came to earth. We would like to invite everyone to a pasta lunch after the service.

Please do not miss the opportunity to see an amazing exhibition at the Winnipeg Art Gallery "Illuminating the Word: The Saint John's Bible" on until June 8th. Commissioned by Saint John's Abbey & University in Minnesota & written & illuminated in a scriptorium in Wales, this is the first handwritten bible to be produced since the advent of the printing press 500 hundred years ago.
