New Toys are needed for the Christmas Hampers and St. Matthew’s-Maryland Community Ministry Toy Store. Toys/gifts for newborns to teenagers are welcomed (toys without batteries are preferable). Also needed are items suitable for a silent auction for the Community Ministry. Please place items in the box marked New Toys by coffee area by Sunday December 14, 2008.

White Gifts: Please take a tag from the table in the upper hall and buy the item written on the tag. Wrap it in white paper attaching the tag to the gift. Put the gifts in the box marked White Gifts by the coffee area by December 14th as they will be blessed that morning.

Christmas Food Hampers: Once again our parish will be making up hampers to help the Christmas Cheer Board. Please sign up to bring food items to help those less fortunate. Monetary gifts should be place in an envelope marked as “Christmas Hampers” and included in the offertory. "If you or someone you know would like to receive a Christmas Hamper please contact the Christmas Cheer Board and or Alan Livingstone in order to register to receive a hamper this year.” Please put the food items in the box labelled Christmas Hampers by Sunday December 14th. ALL IS CALM: A Christmas Interlude: We invite you for a "time out" while in the midst of the Christmas rush. If Christmas is a difficult time for you, or if you feel the need for a quiet break, join us for a time of reflection, peace and healing on Thursday evening, Dec. 18th at 7:30 pm. Refreshments to follow.

Poinsettia Sale: A sign up sheet is posted in the outer hall for poinsettias. Please sign your name, address, telephone number, number of plants, colour and memorial.

Penny Jar: For many years there has been a Penny Jar at St. Mary Magdalene on Sundays and funds raised have gone to various causes. At the last Vestry meeting, it was agreed to begin to raise funds for an outdoor bench to be placed in the Sage Creek area suitably labelled so as to indicate presence and an invitation to join us for worship. Please contribute your spare change to the jar for this great cause.

Diocesan and other Events

The Preserving Group at St. Matthew’s-Maryland Community Ministry has run out of jars for making jams, salsas, etc. They need 250 ml and 500 ml sizes only, as soon as possible. Talk to Barbara Bater or Margaret Jones.

Sunday, November 30th at 4:30 pm, All Saints' will present their 56th Advent Procession with Carols. A tradition in the parish which has become a "must see and hear" for many. Throughout this service the choir moves from west to east, from "darkness" to "light." You will experience a vivid presentation in word and song of the Coming of our Lord. Come and help us celebrate 125 years of Ministry and Music.

Food, Faith, & Rural Community: The Saskatoon Theological Union is offering this course in distance education format: 3 Fri-Sat periods (Feb 6-7; Mar 13-14; Apr 10-11, 2009). The course looks at the social, spiritual, biblical & economic implications of producing & eating food. Contact Colleen.

Gospel Jamboree – Open to the Public. Fri. Dec. 12 & Sat. Dec. 13 from 7 pm to midnight. A healing service will take place around 11 pm each night. The gospel jamboree is at the Cathedral. You are also invited to a Christmas Feast, including moose meat, bannock, tea, coffee, juices, on Sat. Dec. 13 at 5 pm. There will be tickets for the supper, so folks can call Wechetowin office for details at 582-0130. It would be helpful to know how many can attend so we can plan.

Winnipeg South Seniors Village (WSSV) needs your help! WSSV has been working for over four years to build senior housing in St. Vital. Our objective is to combine affordable senior rental housing with a life lease arrangement in a senior village concept where you can Age in Place. Due to the sudden , unexpected death of our chairperson, Dave Young, and resignations of several members of our steering committee, we are actively searching for new, committed people to join is as members or directors. If you are interested, you are invited to attend an information / renewal meeting where you will learn of our vision, history, and progress to date as well as recent developments that give us hope for the future. Amazing Grace Project

On November 23, Anglican parishes across the country will be singing Amazing Grace, and sending a video of it to the national office. We need a volunteer with suitable equipment to record this. Also, participants are asked to consider donating a “toonie” to support the Anglican Church in the North. For information, contact Nancy Aaslund.

7 – 10 am LITE's 12th Annual Wild Blueberry Pancake Breakfast at the Indian and Métis Friendship Centre (45 Robinson, at Dufferin). This community-partner catered breakfast is a celebration of CED in Winnipeg’s inner city and is a highlight of the LITE campaign.

9:30 – 4 pm The 2008 CD/CED Gathering! Join others engaged in all aspects of community economic development for a full day of networking, learning, sharing, and inspiration. Please join us for an evening presentation and roundtable discussion on "The Work and Witness of L'Arche Winnipeg" to be held in the Upper Hall of Saint Mary Magdalene Church on Thursday, November 20 from 7 – 9 p.m..  Members of the Winnipeg L’Arche community will facilitate a conversation on L’Arche’s work and witness. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome.
