Habitat for Humanity – St. Mary Magdalene will be hosting and providing lunch for 30 – 40 volunteers on Saturday, June 16. What’s even more exciting is that the volunteers we will be feeding will be building a house practically in our own back yard at 11 Maralbo Avenue West (just north of Parkville, and west of St. Mary’s Road). There is a sign-up poster for anyone who wishes to volunteer to help us make sandwiches, or would be willing to bake a cake or cookies for desert. If you have a cooler or ice packs that you could lend us, this would also be appreciated. If you can’t help in these ways, any small monetary donation that you could make to help cover our costs would be appreciated (in the past, it has cost $2.50 to $3 per person to supply a nice lunch). If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at (204) 442-8430 at home, or my cell (which is not long distance) at 791-6467(on Tues., Thurs., or weekends please). Thank you! Estelle Haines
A message from Bishop Donald
I am very pleased to announce that we have arranged for The Bishop of Central Buganda, Bishop Jackson and his wife Perusi Matovu to visit Rupert's Land June1 to June 11 while they are in the USA attending one of their priest's graduation ceremonies and visiting with his colleagues. At each of these gatherings (see schedule below), participants will have the opportunity (if they wish) to make a contribution to help cover Jackson and Perusi's travel as well as support for their ministry; and we plan on having some "African-style" clothing and fabric for sale - with the proceeds going directly to the Central Buganda Clergy wives association. (These are the women who have crafted the material.). ( for the Bishop’s complete message see the June issue of News for the Pews).
Greetings from the Companion Diocese Team: Several events have been scheduled throughout Rupert's Land to celebrate the Bishop Jackson’s visit. It is hoped that as many people as possible will be able to come to one or more of the scheduled events. Parishes from Rupert's Land that are linked with parishes in Central Buganda may wish to take this opportunity to visit with Bishop Jackson & his wife Perusi & also to send a letter with them to your Link Parish in Central Buganda. Communication with the Link parishes in Central Buganda has proved challenging in the past. There will be an email address for you to use in the near future. Until that has been established, you may wish to take this opportunity to send a letter to Central Buganda.
